Margin offset, poor print registration, wrinkles, web breaks, uneven tension and poor sheet tracking are the result of misalignment. More severe misalignment conditions can result in increased vibration and accelerated wear of bearings, couplings, bushings and other mechanical parts.

The most effective means of inspecting and correcting misalignment in newsprint presses is through the use of optical tooling. The size, speed and multicolor function of modern newsprint presses require tolerances that can't be achieved through the use of mechanical alignment methods.
